Sudhir N. Dalal, Ph.D.

November 4, 1939 – July 18, 2026

With deep love and reverence, we announce the passing of Dr. Sudhir N. Dalal, a devoted husband, beloved father, proud grandfather, respected scholar, and cherished pillar of his family and community.

Sudhir was born on November 4, 1939, in Godhra, a small town in Gujarat, India. Son of the late Dr. Natvarlal and Chandanben Dalal, he is one of 4 brothers and survived by his sister Leena Parikh. From an early age, he carried with him a deep commitment to education, family, and strong determination that would shape the course of his life.

In 1961, Sudhir immigrated to the United States as a student to pursue higher education and the promise of the American Dream. Through hard work and perseverance, he earned three master’s degrees: Statistics from the University of Baroda in Gujarat, India; Mathematics from Northwestern State University, Louisiana, and Applied Statistics from Villanova University in Pennsylvania.  He later earned his Doctorate in Applied Statistics from the Polytechnic Institute of New York.

After working as a biostatistician for several pharmaceutical companies, Dr. Dalal founded his own consulting company, through which he provided expert services for more than four decades. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he generously shared his knowledge with graduate students, offering guidance, support, and statistical insight to help them complete their doctoral work.

Above all, Sudhir’s greatest joy was his family. He shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with his loving wife, Shakuntla S. Dalal. He was the beloved father of Seema and her husband, Jimmy, and Meeta and her husband, Ananth; and the cherished grandfather to Jiten, Jaymin, Shaylen, and Amara.

Sudhir will be remembered as the first pioneer of the Dalal family.  He not only forged the path to the United States, he was a mentor and inspired the younger generation to follow their dreams. He was a man whose generosity, integrity, kindness, humility, and grace touched everyone who knew him.  To his friends and family, he was a true gentleman—polished, dignified, and always ready to listen and offer thoughtful advice.  His legacy will live on through the values he embodied and the family he helped guide and uplift.

He will be immensely missed and remain forever in our hearts.
