BRIDGEWATER- Peter August Ott, age 89 of Bridgewater, died on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, surrounded by his three children.
The son of Clement and Mary Josephine Ott, Pete grew up with his family on a chicken farm in West Amwell and was a graduate of Lambertville High School. As a young man, Pete embarked on adventures throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico by motorcycles and automobiles, and throughout life explored much of Hunterdon, Mercer, and Somerset Counties on bicycle. He had a lifelong interest in aeronautics and enjoyed several ride alongs in World War II planes. He was a skilled mechanic and worked most of his life as the shop foreman and mechanic at Hunterdon Concrete in Ringoes. Pete could fix almost anything, and kept all of his cars functional long after their expected lifecycle. He was an avid racing fan, spending many Saturday nights on the first turn at the Flemington Speedway. Pete was known as someone who would help anyone, and was a longtime volunteer with the Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad. At 89 years old, Pete was still mowing the grass, cleaning the pool, and fixing whatever was broken around the house. His efforts were frequently rewarded with a Dunkin coffee and two jelly donuts. Pete was an independent man who enjoyed his alone time, often taking day trips to destinations unknown by his family. Fortunately for them, he always came home.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rudy, and wife Diane. He is survived by his son Jack Ott and daughter-in-law Jennifer, daughter Dawn Berberian and son-in-law Ara, daughter Vikki Ott, grandchildren Abby and Alex Berberian, sister Beatrice Ferry, sister-in-law Dawn Ott and nephew Brian Ott.
The family will hold a private celebration of life for family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be made to the Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad
