SOMERVILLE, NJ- Nancy L. Polgar (Bogdanski) of Somerville, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on March 11, 1942, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Nancy was the daughter of the late Stanley P. and Irene S. Bogdanski. She grew up in Shillington, PA, and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Reading, PA as a member of the National Honor Society. She began her professional career as secretary to the Vice President of Reading Trust Company.
After marrying, Nancy continued to reside in Shillington until moving to New Jersey, where she dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker for 20 years. She was actively involved in various organizations, notably serving as assistant troop leader for her daughters’ local Girl Scout troop. Her commitment to community and family was evident in all aspects of her life.
Once her children grew older, Nancy reentered the workforce, joining Somerville Public Schools and serving as secretary to the principal of Somerville High School. Her professionalism and kindness touched many students and staff. Later, she returned to the financial services industry, embarking on a 20-year career with Beneficial Management Corporation (Tax Masters Division), which eventually merged with HSBC. Nancy retired in 2007, having earned numerous awards for her outstanding service and dedication, including recognition for her contributions to the United Way of New Jersey.
In her retirement years, Nancy treasured her role as “Grammy” to her two beloved grandchildren. She delighted in attending their school and sporting events and was known for baking her famous nut roll and poppyseed roll every Easter and Christmas, a tradition her family will fondly remember.
Nancy is survived by her loving daughters, Marcia Polgar Zalewski (John) of Somerville and Christine Polgar of Clinton Township; Robert Polgar; her cherished grandchildren, Kristina Zalewski and John Robert Zalewski; her brother Dennis (Jeannette) Bogdanski; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Richard F. Polgar, and her sister Patricia Turnbull.
A funeral mass will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 35 Mountain Avenue, Somerville, New Jersey. Burial will be private at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, Pennsylvania.
