SOMERVILLE-
Merle Shirley Jacobs (Diaz), a devout and humble servant of God, was called to her eternal rest on March 8, 2024, in Somerville, New Jersey, at age 84. Born on March 11, 1939, in Trinidad and Tobago, her life was a testament to the strength and beauty of a spirit filled with gratitude and respect for all creation.
Merle, a beacon of light and love, walked this earth with a cheerful heart. Her laughter and melodious singing echo the joy she found in the simplest of moments. Her kind words and compassionate actions embody her unwavering faith and the love she bore for her fellow beings.
Throughout her earthly journey, Merle served as a Nanny, caring tenderly for the children entrusted to her, and as a Lab Technician at Hoechst Celanese, where she retired with honor.
She is lovingly remembered by her son Anthony (Paulette) in Florida, Daughter Alcina, New York, her sister Pearl in Trinidad and Tobago, her cherished grandchildren Alex (Brittney) in Washington, Kierra in Alabama, and her adored great-grandchildren Sa’ryan, Zavier, and Ta’layah in Washington, and Destiny in New York. Her legacy continues through her nephews John, Bryan, and Terry in Trinidad and Tobago and Barry in New York. Merle was reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven with her beloved parents, Cyril and Lucille, and her sister, Rita.
Educated in her native Trinidad and Tobago, Merle’s faith was nurtured at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, where she lifted her voice in song and praise and found solace and fellowship.
In the summer of 2024, a ceremony celebrating Merle’s life and her return to the Lord will be held in Trinidad and Tobago. In memory of Merle’s giving spirit, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, an organization close to her heart.
Antonietta E. Cuoco and staff of Cuoco Funeral & Cremation Services located at 10 West End Avenue in Somerville, New Jersey, (908)) 707-2058 is honored to assist the family in their
time of need and to ensure that Merle’s departure is marked with the dignity and grace she so richly
deserves.
