SOMERVILLE- It is with great sadness to announce the loss of Eugenio “Gene” Baez,
Jr. on Saturday, May 13, 2023. He was born on November 14, 1974 in Newark, NJ to
his parents Mariana and the late Eugenio.
Gene was a beacon of positivity, his spirit undeterred even in the face of adversity. His
relentless will to overcome obstacles was nothing short of inspiring.
Gene was employed at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. in Jersey City, NJ as a System
Release Management. He volunteered faithfully at Habitat for Humanity.
In his spare time, Gene enjoyed customizing cars, car clubs, driving his jeep off track,
and collecting model cars. He was an avid “techy” man who would be found playing
video games with his sons. Gene loved the challenge of pulling things apart and putting
them back together, especially with wood and epoxy. Rebuilding his home was one of
his greatest accomplishments. When it came to the outdoors Gene loved traveling to
the mountains and rivers. Dancing and listening to Reggae and Salsa was music to his
ears.
Gene was a man of many talents, each one a testament to his creativity and attention to
detail. His artistic flair, his skill in car detailing, and his masterful woodworking were all
reflections of his incredible abilities. His influence was ever-present, and often one
would find themselves pondering over what advice he would give when working on a
project.
Gene held an immeasurable love for his beloved wife Helen and cherished sons
Cristian and Aiden. His conversations were often filled with stories about them sharing
his dreams. He is also survived by his loving mother Mariana, a brother Brian, his cat
Pepper and dog Sebastian. He is predeceased by his father Eugenio and a brother
Freddy.
