Carmela “Millie” Minni
March 13, 1932 – March 24, 2024
Born in Messina Sicily, at the age of 2, she immigrated with her family to the
USA and was raised in Jersey City, NJ. Carmela was a loving mother and
grandmother as well as a devout Catholic.
Millie is predeceased by her husband of 61 years Fred Minni, her brother
Thomas Gumina, her 2 brothers-in-law Joseph Locrotondo and Benjamin Minni,
her 2 sisters-in-law Linda Gumina and Frances Minni, and her son-in-law Michael
Ellis.
Millie is survived by her beloved daughters JoAnne and son-in-law Matt Hibbett and Michele Ellis, her loving grandchildren Tara Graul (Billy), Dean Ellis, Kylie Hibbett (fiancé Jimmy McGuigan), Zachary Ellis and Dylan Ellis
She is also survived by her dear sister Helen Locrotondo, her nephews Joseph
Locrotondo, Stephen Locrotondo, Jeffery Gumina, Joseph Gumina, and Benjamin
Minni Jr. and nieces Jane Locrotondo, Laura Hirschmann, Lisa Scanlon, Natalie
Minni, Fran Minni, Theresa Murphy, and Grace Ryan and many cherished great nieces and nephews.
Millie was one of the founding members of an all-women’s social club the “Sunshine Girls”. They met once a month, and went on annual trips as a group, the club
remained active for over 40 years.
Millie worked for Western Electric in Kearny, NJ for several years, volunteered
at St Nicholas Catholic Grammar School and eventually retired from Christ
Hospital after working in the Mailroom for over 25 years.
One of her passions was Old Classic Movies, the TV was always on, with some of
her stars Lana Turner, Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Betty Grable and Dean
Martin.
Millie was also quite the communicator, everyone in her family and circle of
friends could always count on the multiple phone calls from her on a daily
basis.
Her love and passion for her family and friends will be greatly missed.
