Middle Village, NY – Anthony “Tony Apples” DiMatteo, 84, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2018. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on September 3, 1933 to his dear parents, Madeline and Angelo DiMatteo. Tony lived in Brooklyn and Queens most of his life and was a truck driver. He was a one-time boxing champ in Brooklyn and was really known as a “man’s man”. Tony had beautiful blue eyes, a big personality and loved to joke around. He loved music and had a great singing voice. He was a member of the Italian-American League and the Captain at the Feast of San Gennaro in NYC. Tony was a true friend to everyone who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Theresa (Russo) DiMatteo; three loving children Angelo DiMatteo, Madeline (Bobby) Rodriguez and Mary (Greg) Destro; 5 cherished grandchildren Bobby Jr., Anthony “Tony”, Michael, David and Christina; two dear siblings Connie and Josie and many friends and family in Brooklyn. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Marie.
