Kathleen “Kathe” Mary Nugent

Kathe was born September 23, 1950 in Orange, New Jersey, and was raised in South Plainfield, New Jersey. She married Sylvain Gilary in 1974 and they lived happily in Manhattan for almost fifty years. She held varied jobs throughout her life, working primarily in advertising in her 20s and 30s. Later in life, she went back to school to get a degree in teaching and worked for years in early childhood education.

She loved long walks and exploring New York City’s neighborhoods, restaurants, and culture. She was an avid reader, NPR listener, New York Times crossword puzzler, and a very fashionable person. She enjoyed running, gardening, and spending summer vacations on the Jersey Shore. Her family brought her the greatest joy. As the eldest of seven children, she was very close with her sisters and brothers, her son and daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, and thirteen nieces and nephews and nineteen grandnieces and grandnephews.

She is survived by her husband Sylvain Gilary; her sisters Joan Lally, Megan Welsh, Beth Prime, and Sara Grzenda; her brothers John Nugent and Michael Nugent; her mother Helen Nugent; her son Aaron Gilary and daughter-in-law Jennifer Styles; and her two granddaughters Nora Gilary and Tess Gilary.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
